‘Lady Bug’ a song for piano preschoolers by Piano Comics

This cute, short, easy peasy little song called ‘Lady Bug’ can be taught to preschoolers and older piano students.

It teaches forte, piano, allegro and adagio as the Lady Bug is being loud and carefree in the beginning but not so joyfull in the end. It also trains the ear to major and minor tonalities ( 1st scene is major, 2nd all minor). The keys being used are only 3 and they are consecutive; preschoolers can play with just one finger ( with or without the help of the teacher ).  The lyrics are rhymed and easy to remember. I’ve used this song also with a 7 year old to transport it from different keys and it worked. Because it’s an easy song to remember so the student doesn’t look at the scores and only on the keyboard trying to find if he has to play a black or a white key to ‘fit’ the correct sound he already knows from the piece. You can use it to practice the round hand position as well since it’s so easy therefore the kids can concentrate on doing the right hand and finger gymnastics ( as the Lady Bug in the story ).

This little song came up as a parent sent me my 5 year old students’ video dressed as a Lady Bug walking and doing stretches!

Here you can watch a student performing it and at the end of this post download the scores. Have fun doing stretches on the piano keyboard!
