‘I want ice cream’ by Piano Comics for piano beginners and preschoolers

This piece is by Piano Comics  – from ‘Method for piano beginners’ –  for piano beginners, preschoolers and music classes. It has been very successful in my piano classes even with very young kids and music classes. There are many ways in which you can use it and preschoolers can play it with just one finger. Only 3 consecutive keys are being used and the lyrics rhyme with the melody. ‘I want ice cream’ can be also taught as a canon or chasing game  (music class) either with words or on the piano. Ask from your students to play it saying different kinds of sweets and candies using 3 syllables. Don’t forget to tell them to ‘eat’ also with their left hand and finally, with both hands at the same time many sweets!

In conclusion, through this little, simple and sweet piece students learn:

  1. the keys c d e and where they are located on the piano keyboard
  2. to play with a round hand ( it’s a short piece so that makes it easy)
  3. to coordinate both hands when they play together
  4. to give independence to their fingers if they play it as a canon
  5. to practice sol-fa with only 3 keys
