‘Spiky woke up feeling grumpy’ by Piano Comics for piano preschoolers

‘Spiky woke up feeling grumpy’ is a new song for piano preschoolers.

There are 2 score versions: the 1st one is the original ( for the teacher to play or students at intermediate piano levels) just for the young piano beginners to sing and a 2nd version where even preschoolers can play it. The 2nd version has 4 consecutive keys in the right hand going up and 4 consecutive keys in the left hand going down. This way both hands play on 2 different clefs and the student learns – subconsciously- how these keys are written ( they know they have to play 4 keys in a row ) because the brain registers whatever the eyes see. Young piano beginners also start to see how the rhythmical values of quarters – the song is mostly in quarters – are written and how the keys are getting closer to the stave while going up – treble clef- and going down – bass clef- . The hand moves quite easily on the piano keys because the kids have already learnt the lyrics and carry inside the rhythm through the rhymed text ( make sure to perform and sing with them several times before you ask them to play it) so they understand the rhythm.

This song is also very suitable for a music classroom.

tip n.1 : the student can play just with 1 finger ( I prefer the 2nd or 3rd ) .

tip n.2 : use this song to practise transporto moving to different tonalities with students that have a more trained ear ( it is an easy song for this task because the kids know they have to play 4 keys in a row, all is left is to see whether they play a white or a black key ).

Here you can listen to the song and at the end of this post you can download the free scores.

Have fun! Feed your hedgehog.
