Odd Time Signatures:
5/8 x 3 pieces 7/8 x 3 pieces 9/8 x 3 pieces
All 9 compositions are written in c-major tonality. The 1st level is for beginners with just one hand position and no finger turns. This level has rhymed lyrics with the melody so as to help students learn easier the odd time signatures ( if they ‘rap’ it first, the rhythm of speech will ‘install’ in the brain the ‘unusual’ rhythm and then pass it onto the fingers more effortlessly.)
The 2nd level is for late beginners and uses both treble and bass clef and again has only one hand position and no finger turns.
The 3rd level is for elementary students: here the melody line moves more freely while the left hand plays intervals and there are finger turns.
The scores are written and edited in such a way that there is a clear division of the unequal parts of the notes and the groups they fall into which makes the beginner and younger students visually ‘hear’ and understand the unusual time signatures.
All the pieces are short – 8 bars only, making them suitable to learn quickly in one to three piano lessons and to use with more advanced students for Prima Vista and Transporto.
